From careful canopy management to gentle pressing, everything is designed to preserve what’s already there – vibrant aromatics, crisp acidity, and the mineral clarity that defines Blind River. Every Barker’s Marque wine is 100% vegan and certified under Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand (SWNZ), a nationwide program that ensures every step – from vineyard care to bottling – meets the highest environmental standards.
Healthy soil grows healthy vines, and healthy vines yield wines of character. That’s why we farm with biodiversity in mind, minimize intervention, and conserve water and energy at every stage. Sustainability isn’t just what we do; it’s how we ensure each vintage reflects the land as purely tomorrow as it did 20 years ago.
Waverley-Grown Sauvignon Blanc
The Waverley Vineyard sits in the southernmost part of Marlborough’s Blind River subregion — one of the coolest, driest, and most expressive places to grow Sauvignon Blanc.
The stony, loam, sand and clay soils and coastal breezes give our grapes their signature tension: citrus brightness, herbal lift, and a mineral backbone juxtaposed with tropical, orchard and exotic fruit flavors lingering long after the last sip.
Here, the vines work a little harder, and the result is worth it — wines of structure, depth, and honesty. Each bottle is a direct reflection of this landscape: wild, vibrant, and full of life.
