At Barker’s Marque – Waverley Vineyards, we believe you are the kind of wine drinker who wants quality wines, made by people who love wine, who love the land, and who want to drink the best. Our wines are made and labeled certified sustainable under the strict accordance of the Sustainable Wine growing Program (SWNZ). Additionally, our wines are 100% Vegan friendly. Being Certified Sustainable and Vegan friendly helps us to make not only the best quality wines, but the best wines from an ecological business.

Getting our highly acclaimed wines to all of you has its challenges. The major supermarkets and Wine and Spirit distributors are bombarded with Marlborough Sauvignon Blancs either from the world’s largest wine corporations, or from marketers looking to buy left-over wine juice to bring low-cost short-lived wines and brands to the market. Fortunately having these mass-producers in the market help keep the wines from our specially portfolio at a more than competitive price point. You may like the commercial brands, but you can buy and love our wines.

You can find our wines far and wide in 43 US states, just click “Find our Wines” on our website, then call or email the wholesaler in your state and ask them for a list of retailers in your area. Also, feel free to contact us directly. In the event the wines are not distributed close to you, often you can request the wines be ordered to your neighborhood W&S Purveyor.

However, you won’t generally find our wines at the drug store, or national grocery store chains, but the independent retailers and the regional specialty grocery stores have proven to be great partners. Restaurants who understand that great wine goes with great food are also a significant part of our business.

Sustainability

We are certified under the Sustainable Wine Growing program (SWNZ), but we try do do more. While our microclimate reduces the incidence of disease, continuous care and careful soil management help us cut treatments even further. Our mantra of Minimal Intervention drives us to keep our vines healthy and productive, with minimal impact on our environment.

Winemaking

Our belief that winemaking starts in the vineyard and that fruit carefully tended and managed using sensible, sustainable methods requires minimal intervention from the winemaker to show its potential. The result is wines of quality with unique flavor profiles - wines with a crispness an mineralogy not found elsewhere in Marlborough.

Vineyard

Our Single Vineyard and Estate-Grown wines are grown on clay and gravel (think Graves) half a mile from the sea in Blind River. Our cooler and dryer microclimate, in one of the windiest spots in Marlborough, lowers yields and delays maturity. More cool fall evenings and larger temperature differentials help develop the aromas and flavors that give our wines their unique intensity.
